CANADA HAS INCREASED SOME PERMANENT RESIDENCE APPLICATION FEES
If you are planning to apply for Permanent Residence in Canada, take note.
The Government of Canada, through IRCC, has announced new application fees effective April 30, 2026.
💰 WHAT CHANGED?
For several economic immigration programs:
Principal Applicant
🔹 Previous fee: CAD $950
🔹 New fee: CAD $990
Spouse/Common-law Partner
🔹 Previous: CAD $950
🔹 New: CAD $990
Dependent Child
🔹 Previous: CAD $260
🔹 New: CAD $270
The increase applies to several economic immigration pathways, including:
🇨🇦 Express Entry
🇨🇦 Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
🇨🇦 Atlantic Immigration
🇨🇦 Rural & Francophone Community pathways
🇨🇦 Agri-Food and other economic pilots
🇨🇦 Certain Home Care Worker immigration classes
⚠️ THERE’S ANOTHER IMPORTANT CHANGE
The Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) has also increased:
CAD $575 → CAD $600
That’s an additional CAD $25 for the principal applicant and accompanying spouse/common-law partner.
🇳🇬 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR AFRICAN APPLICANTS?
If Canada is part of your 2026/2027 migration plan, don’t build your budget around old fee information.
The application fee is only one part of the total cost. Applicants should also budget for things such as:
✔️ Biometrics
✔️ Language testing
✔️ Educational Credential Assessment
✔️ Medical examination
✔️ Police certificates
✔️ Settlement funds where applicable
✔️ Government application fees
✔️ Travel and documentation expenses
🚨 IMPORTANT
This fee increase does NOT mean Canada has opened a new visa route or that PR approval has become easier.
It simply means the government has updated certain application fees.
And remember:
PAYING THE APPLICATION FEE DOES NOT GUARANTEE APPROVAL.
Your eligibility, documents, CRS/profile where applicable, admissibility and program requirements still matter.
